The capital of the state of Upper Austria, Linz is in the north center of the country. It's not just the third largest Austrian city, but a place that has an attractive location. Being about 30 km south of the Czech border, Linz is set on both sides of the Danube River.
The main sights in Linz include its main street, Landstrase,the Plague Column built to remember the plague epidemic's victims, the old Roman fortress of Lentia and the oldest Austrian church, Saint Martin. In addition to these, we should mention St. Mary's Cathedral, Postingberg Kirche, the Brucknerhaus concert hall and the Linzer Lanschaftliche Theater.
Linz is an important cultural hub, a vibrant music and art-scene. Visit the Kulturmeile, that's easy to be found between the Lentos Art Museum and the Brucknerhaus. The Donaulande is also the venue for the Ars Electronica Festival and the Linz Fest. All who are eager to visit Linz should know it's set to become the European Capital of Culture in 2009.
