The capital of diamond producing and the second largest port in Europe, Antwerp combines art, history and a fabulous bar scene. Situated on the Scheldt River, Antwerp lies within 55 miles from the North Sea. A principal commercial centre by 1750, Antwerp is now not only a huge diamond-trading centre, but also a key finance and industry hub. Antwerp has a history of Arts as well. It is the home town of Rubens and a number of other noted painters such as Van Dyck and Brueghels. The Flemish speaking Antwerp has a beautiful old town with interesting historic building and a 9th castle, which now accommodates the National Maritime Museum. When visiting the city be sure to check one of the numerous bars and try the famous Belgian beers.
