about Metz
Metz
Beautifully located at the confluence of the Moselle and Seille Rivers, the city of Metz welcomes all those heading for the northeastern part of France. Being the capital of the Lorraine region and the administrative center of the Moselle department, the city got its capital status in the mid-20th Century.
Often called the Green City, Metz charms with its gardens, parks, playgrounds and open spaces. You'll enjoy its yellow limestone architecture, tourist landmarks, old ruins and cultural institutions.
We recommend a visit to the St. Etienne Gothic Cathedral, where you can admire the stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall and the St. Pierre-aux-Nonnains Church, considered the oldest in the country. If you're keen on religious sightseeing, we would also like to mention the St-Martin Church, Ste-Segolene Church, St-Vincente Church, St-Maximin Church, St-Euchaire Church and St-Pierre-de-la-Citadelle Church.
Don't miss the city gates, Porte Serpenoise and Porte des Allemands, the Theatre and Opera House and the Jewish Cemetery. For your convenience, there's a list of hotels in Metz presented on our site.
