about Regensburg
Regensburg
Regensburg is situated right at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers in Bavaria, Germany. It's the capital city of the Upper Palatinate region, and its Medieval center was appointed part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Visiting some of the sites in Regensburg is a must, as these feature unique style and atmosphere. The Cathedral Dom has Gothic architecture and is considered a masterpiece of this style in Bavaria. The Stone Bridge is an excellent example of Medieval bridge building. The facility was used by the knights of the 2nd and 3rd Crusades to cross the Danube. Built in the 12th Century, the Church of St. James bears some Romanesque features and derives its name from the monastery of Irish Benedictines.
We also recommend the Town Hall, which was built in the 14th Century, and the Gasthof zum Goldenen Kreuz (the Golden Cross Inn). The last stop of your sightseeing experience should be the Gothic Villa of the king of Bavaria on the bank of the Danube -- a building that bears modern architectural features.
