about Hamburg
Although hamburger (the sandwich) did indeed originate from Hamburg, the city is more famous for its high cuisine, rather than fast food. Hamburg is a big metropolis with population over 1.6 million. It is internationally renowned for its music tradition (Mendelssohn and Brahms), historic buildings and numerous museums. Hamburg is furthermore a busy port city and the base of the Hanseatic League. Despite the heavy bombing during the World War II, many of the historic buildings remained intact. The beautiful Old Town district is the heart of Hamburg and the site of many top attractions. Among the popular sites are the Diechstrasse, the Ubersee-Zentrum, the Kunsthalle and the Altonaer Museum.
