about Gyor
Gyor is situated in the Little Hungarian Plain on one of Europe's busiest highways. The city had quite a turbulent history. It suffered invasions from the Romans, Celts, Tatars and Huns in its early history. Despite its massive fortress, which was considered unconquerable, the city was sacked by the Turks in the late 16th century. It couldn't hold off Napoleon either and since then the fortress has been destroyed. Nowadays visitors see a revitalized cityscape. A major attraction is the city's pedestrian centre lined with historic buildings.
