about Paestum
Established in the 7th century B. C., Paestum is an ideal example of the Magna Graecia colonies and one of the best relics of this time. The Greeks were instantly drawn to this site because it seemed like a good starting point from where to establish a trade route with the rest of the country. Nowadays Paestum attracts visitors with its well-preserved Doric Temples, the most famous of which - the Temple of Ceres and Neptune. The town also houses an ancient forum, basilica and the old city walls. The local museum has a set of friezes on display, which is considered one of the best examples of ancient architecture in the world. The surrounding area, known as the Woods of Diana is one of Italy's best-preserved natural spots.
