about Bologna
Bologna enjoys a location at the foot of the Apennines in the north of Italy. Bologna is the administrative centre of Emilia-Romagna Region. First established as an Etruscan settlement in the 6th century B.C., Bologna developed into a great intellectual centre during the Medieval Ages. Much of its intellectual fame is owed to the University, which was established there in 1088, considered one of the oldest in this part of Europe. Present day Bologna thrives mainly on publishing, foot processing and textile. Furthermore, the city is a favourite tourist destination. It has a wealth of medieval and Renaissance landmarks such as Piazza Maggiore, Fontana del Nettuno and the leaning towers of Garisenda and Asinelli.
