about Torino
Home of Fiat, which is Italy's monopolist car manufacturer, Turin has a well-earned reputation as Italy's "automobile capital". Set in the northwest of Italy, the city enjoys a central location on the Po River, with the Alps rising in the near distance. The city is dominated by the imposing Baroque Basilica di Superga, which is situated just outside Turin's centre. The central part of the city features well preserved Baroque style architecture, while the sprawling, traffic-jammed suburbs, which developed around the automobile industry are packed with modern facilities. Tourists coming to Turin are encouraged to explore the National Historic Artillery Museum along with a number of automobile exhibits.
