about Siena
Siena lies to the south of Florence in Tuscany Region. An important commercial and cultural hub during the medieval Times, and according to some the place where the Renaissance originated, Siena endured wars and Black Death and entered modern times quite admirably. At present the city has a population of 65 000 people and boasts a splendid mixture of old charm and modern environment. The town is dominated by stunning squares, among which the car-free Piazza del Campo. Furthermore, Siena offers a fashionable cafe scene and a number of famous events such as the Palio. The Palio is a local horse race, many compare to the Spanish bull running.
