about Aosta
Aosta is located at the foot of Mount Emilius and is the capital city of The Valle D'Aosta province. Dubbed the "Rome of the Alps" because of its ancient walls, the city was a crossroads of Europe during Medieval times. Nowadays Aosta is mostly known as an excellent skiing and hiking destination. Despite its small size, Valle Aosta is home to over a hundred castles and features a number of recreational facilities. French and Swiss tourists come to the area through the Mont Blanc and Great St. Bernard Tunnels. Still the town remains a bit off the beaten track and is not littered with tourists like some other alpine resorts.
