about Eindhoven
Eindhoven
The city of Eindhoven is in the south Netherlands, in the province of Noord-Brabant. At first, it was built at the confluence of the Dommel and Gender brooks, while later the waters of the Gender were used in a dam. The Dommel still runs through the city, adding a lot to its unique atmosphere.
Eindhoven is part of the Braband Stad metropolitan area, and neighbours the cities of Nuenen, Son en Breugel, Geldrop-Mierlo, Waarlre, Eersel, Oirschot and Best. The town has an academic atmosphere thanks to the University of Technology and a number of other schools there. Modern tourists will enjoy its vivid nightlife scene, with a number of bars spread around the Market Square, Stratum's End, Dommelstraat, Wilhelmina Square and the rest of the city.
There are many enjoyable events held in Einhoven throughout the year. EDIT and Fiesta del Sol are held in June, Ablive Popfestival is in September, while the Carnival is organized in February. We should add Koninginndag, the National Day on the 30th of April, Dutch Design Week in October and the TROMP International Music Competition and Festival in November. August abounds in events, and we recommend the Park Hilaria Fun Fair, Folkwoods Folk Festival, the Reggae Sundance Festival and the Jazz in Lighttown Festival.
Eindhoven is a popular cultural hub where art-lovers will have a splendid time. It's in the Van Abbemuseum, where you can see a collection of modern art, including works of Picasso and Chagall. The town also boasts the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips, which opened in 1992 and hosts classical and popular music performances. In the Parktheater Eindhoven, you can enjoy opera, cabaret and ballet on one of the largest stages in the Netherlands.
