about Rotterdam
Situated on the Maas River, Rotterdam is the largest port on earth. The city and particularly its harbour, suffered great damage during the German bombings raids in the World War II. However, it was rebuilt and its harbour and port were provided with modern facilities. Nowadays, Rotterdam boasts a modern cityscape highlighted by the bizarre constructions of Piet Blom's cubist buildings that much remind of a Picasso painting. These weird tilted houses are a major local landmark. Other popular sights include the medieval Grote Kerk, rebuilt after the bombings, the Leuvehaven Harbor and the Museumschip Buffel. Do not miss the Euromast - the city's tower rising 607 feet and revealing astonishing views over Rotterdam and the harbour.
