about Faro
Once a small and quiet town, nowadays Faro bustles with life. The Capital of Algarve is a busy tourism and industry hub. Faro survived both fire and earthquake. Although most of its historic buildings were destroyed, visitors today can still enjoy a few stunning examples. Among these is the Baroque Igreja do Carmo and its chapel, which is decorated with bones from the nearby graveyard. Another major attraction in Faro is its semi walled quarter, which houses a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Travellers fond of sun and sand can enjoy the peaceful sand banks, which abound in the city.
