about Timisoara
Timisoara
The capital of Timis County in Romania, Timisoara is a city that's easy to find in the Banat region of the country. The fourth largest city in Romania is an important economic and cultural hub, home to people of different ethnic groups. There are minorities from Hungary, Germany, Serbia, Italy, Greece, and more. The name of the city derives from the Timis River.
As the city used to be a part of the Habsburg Empire, it's often called Little Vienna. Most of the buildings in the central area of the city were built during the Kaiser era, and it's not surprising that they resemble some in old Vienna.
Timisoara is an academic center and well-developed industrial city. Modern tourists have the chance to enjoy a number of bars and restaurants in the old center.
Don't miss the main sites in the area: the Timisoara Orthodox Cathedral, Timisoara State Theater, Roman Catholic Cathedral, Millennium Church and Huniade Castle.
