about Stockholm
The Swedish capital concentrates culture, education and industry. Stockholm is a cosmopolitan and lively place with a beautifully preserved old town and elegant waterways. The city spreads over 13 islands and boasts beautiful canals. That is probably why Stockholm is often referred to as the "Venice of the north". The city's history is reflected in numerous buildings, the most famous of which are the Riddarholmen Church, the burial place of the Swedish rulers and the Houses of Parliament. Many important museums and cultural institutions, such as the Royal Theatre and the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, are also based here. Outside the city visitors can enjoy the famous Gripsholm Castle and Skokloster Palace.
