about Brighton
Essex's largest city, Brighton turned into a popular destination in the 18th century, thanks to an article on the benefits of the seawater, issued in 1754 by Dr. Richard Russell. The piece was so credible that it made many rich families move here in order to cure their diseases. In the end of the 18th century, the Prince of Wales himself made Brighton his holiday home. He had an unusual house built here in Hindu style. The Marine Pavilion, as it is called, boasts Chinese interior decor, and exterior completed with spires and columns. At present, the estate is open for visitors. Guests can enjoy a Museum and an Art Gallery or wander around the lavishly furnished King's apartments and bedrooms.
