about Dover
The city of Dover lies only 21 miles away from mainland Europe. Dover's major sight is its Castle, which was built back in the 1168. Other interesting attractions include the wartime tunnels, which date back to the Napoleonic war, and were later extended and used as headquarters during the Second World War. Roman mosaics and some wall paintings can be seen in the ancient Roman site of The Roman Painted House. The surroundings of the city are well known for their White Cliffs. They can be observed best from a boat several miles off the shore.
