A landlocked country, the Czech Republic is situated in the central part of Europe, bordering Germany, Poland, Austria and Slovakia. A member of the European Union and the Schengen Agreement, the Czech Republic is one of the best tourist destinations on the continent.
The country has three historic regions, namely Moravia, Bohemia and some parts of Silesia. The capital and largest city in the country is Prague. The landscape of the Czech Republic is varied, comprised of low mountains and long rivers to the west, and hilly regions to the east. The Elbe, Moldau and Oder Rivers cross the country to the Baltic, the North and the Black Sea.
The climate in the country is continental and temperate, characterized by hot summers and cold, snowy winters. As in almost all European countries, the coldest month in the Czech Republic is January, while the warmest month is July.
The most appropriate times to visit the country in terms of weather conditions are in the early spring and early autumn. The population of the Czech Republic is mainly comprised of Czechs, as well as some Slovaks, Poles, Germans, Vietnamese and Gypsies. Along with Estonia, the Czech Republic is among the most atheistic countries in all of Europe.
